Rainbow beret

I just finished a rainbow beret for my shop on http://www.pigglewiggins.etsy.com. I liked the yarn so much that now I'm knitting a scarf out of it.

Amigurumi Elephant

I just posted a baby circus elephant to my Etsy shop. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7248063
Someone asked me if amigurumi was hard. If you can do single crochet, increases and decreases and crochet in a circle, you are ready to try amigurumi. Ironically the meaning of amigurumi is 'small knitted doll or toy' but most amigurumi by far is crocheted. I think something got lost in the translation there.

Freeform

Since one of the classes I'm offering is freeform knitting and crocheting, I thought I better stop making jigsaw puzzle pieces and start making finished items.
So I grabbed my biggest freeform blob and started adding a knitted triangular section in the hopes of eventually making a butterfly jacket out of it.

What is Amigurumi?

What is Amigurumi?
I learned a new word this week. Amigurumi is a Japanese word for crocheted dolls and animals done in a spiral in single crochet. Also, some amigurumi are knitted. And some amigurumi are not dolls or animals, but weird things like cacti and cupcakes. I remembered how to spell the word because it starts with A mi and ends with a 'mi' and has a guru in the middle. Ami-guru-mi. If you like cute stuff you'll love amigurumi.

Gourmet Crochet

I just crocheted 2 cupcakes for my Etsy store. Making food is a lot of fun.

Charity

On June 9, 2006, Jo from the American Cancer Society met with the angel Knitters and Crocheters at Micheal's in Buena Park CA to pick up the blankets, hats, scarves, purses and other items we had ready to donate. The donations came from drop offs to the Michael's store and also from the regulars that meet monthly to stitch all the squares together and to make new items. In the 6 months since the last pick-up, we had accumulated 145 items to donate. Lori keeps the program running at Michael's. It's a chain wide program however so check your local Michael's for details.
(Or google up their website).

A meeting to meet other fiber artists

I'm looking forward to the charity knitting and crocheting class at Michael's Craft store on Friday night. I am almost done with a knitted purse I want to take. I also want to work on putting together a vest from granny squares to prove to the instructor I can make an actual garment with crochet. Besides, I need to use up some of these piles of granny squares I have sitting around. It seems I like to make the squares but not join them together. Haha. That's me, queen of the unfinished projects.

Here she is wearing the hat she picked as one of her graduation gifts. She picked exactly the same color scheme as her sister, even though she didn't know about the other hat. Posted by Picasa

My daughter is crocheting another scarf after selling the first two before she even finished them. Posted by Picasa

Like mother like daughter.

I was crocheting on the Amtrak bus coming up from Santa Barbara, and I called my daughter in S.L.O. to tell her I'd be there in an hour so she could pick me up, and she was already there, crocheting. I held her curly white yarn project while she put my suitcases in the back. When I went to hand it back, I said,"Here's your poodle."
While I was here I went to the Michael's in S.L.O. and the one in Atascadero and got yarn. I also got yarn at Beverly's. Everyone has yarn on sale right now for the holidays. One lady had about 20 pairs of knitting needles in her basket and I said you must really like knitting. She laughed and said they were for Christmas gifts.
